Theresa Nichols Named Boys and Girls Club of Marshfield’s“volunteer of the Month”

Sunday, July 11th, 2010

Ms. Nichols, whose daughter Clara is a member of the club, heard that the boys and girls of the club wanted to participate in the Marshfield Community Christmas Telethon. Since there wasnâ??t anyone on the clubâ??s staff with a strong musical background, Ms. Nichols immediately volunteered to work with approximately 20 children ranging in age from 6-14 and preparing them for their live performance on the telethon.

The kids had a great time performing while learning a valuable lesson in helping others in their community.

â??Theresa stepped up to donate her time and talents to help members of the club and the Marshfield community as well. Theresa offers us the perfect example of how a few hours of oneâ??s time can make such a difference in so many peoplesâ?? lives,â? said Greg Jackson, the clubâ??s Executive Director.

Call for Volunteers

As a non-profit organization, volunteers are always welcomed at the Boys and Girls Club of Marshfield. Specialized volunteers are needed to help lead the nutrition and healthy habits programs for the children.

Volunteers who can play sports, do arts and crafts or help children with homework are vital to the organization. For those interested in keeping the club up and running smoothly, office and computer skilled volunteers as well as Administrative, Human Resources and Development volunteers are needed.

More information and volunteer applications are available on the Boys and Girls Club of Marshfield website. Visit www.marshfieldboysandgirlsclub.com.

Boys And Girls Club Of Marshfield To Host Caricature Artists At Gala On March 6Th

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

Brown, who is best known as the cartoonist who creates Building #19’s prize winning advertising, and Petersen, a professional graphic designer, commercial illustrator and Mass College of Art graduate who has been drawing since childhood, will star at the Boys and Girls Club’s gala drawing caricatures for attendees.

Last year, the duo turned out 40 caricatures over the course of the evening. Those who sat for the artists were excited to pose with their spouses, groups of friends or by themselves and take home a ready-to-frame piece of art that captured their unique physical attributes.

â??Many people came up to me during last year’s gala to show me their caricature and said they were just thrilled with the humorous portrayal of themselves. My husband David and I were drawn and it’s now framed and hanging in our Marshfield office,â? noted Pam Snell of American Computer Technologies who is a member of the Boys and Girls Club Board of Directors and gala co-chair.

According to Petersen, â??I have done portrait work as well, but people really get more joy out of the caricatures and can laugh at what they perceive as their ‘flaws’ instead of obsessing over them.â?

The Boys and Girls Club Gala will be held from 6 to 11 p.m., on Saturday, March 6th at the Indian Pond Country Club in Kingston. For tickets, contact Shawn Costa, Director of Development at the club (781) 834-1300 (ext. 277). Tickets are $100 each or $1,000 for a corporate table for 10. For more information visit marshfieldboysandgirlsclub.com.

The Gala promises to be dazzling with lively entertainment, caricature artists, hors dâ??oeuvres and dinner. A silent and live auction will be held featuring items such as a weekend on Martha’s Vineyard with golf for four; a Dell Notebook and printer; an African Safari for two; a one-week stay at a condo in Treasure Island, FL; a wine pairing dinner for eight; architectural services for an addition or renovation; a four-hour pontoon boat trip for four; a BBQ for 30 and Red Sox tickets.

A Golf School Vacation isnt Just for the Big Boys Anymore

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

A golf school vacation has become more than just a getaway for men who love the game of golf. Traditionally, golf had always been more or less a mans sport, but move over, men! Both women and children are jumping onboard the golf bandwagon, and there are golf school vacations that are designed with both of these groups in mind.

Just like a golf school vacation for adults, childrens golf school vacations include intense instruction from the worlds leading golfers, most of whom are PGA members and former tour champions. These package deals are designed with families in mind, since children cannot usually travel and stay in hotels on their own! Usually with these golf packages, everything that a junior golfer and his family could need is included, including dining, green fees, hotel accommodations, and oftentimes, small little extra incentives are included, maybe a free meal at the resort or a free extra session with a professional.

Many resorts that cater to childrens golf school vacations also have things like kids clubs and activities and nature tours, allowing the children to experience and appreciate the surrounding areas beyond the greens. They also might offer free transportation for families to nearby attractions or something like family golfing deals.

Other things that are usually included in the package deal price for golf school vacation are taxes and fees associated with the stay. Children are treated not as adults during a golf school vacation, but just as they are kids who want to play golf! Being such, resorts that host a golf school vacation understand well the need for children and their families to have plenty of options when it comes to things to do when the golfing is finished for the day. Activities that kids and their families would enjoy surround the golf resorts, such as shopping, dining, mini golf courses, in line skating, fishing, and plenty of playgrounds and play areas. There are frequently sightseeing attractions nearby as well, such as museums and points of interest.

When calling a golf resort for information about a golf school vacation, make sure to ask how many people a quoted price covers. Most often, the price associated with the golf school for children includes 2 adults and the junior golfer. For extra people or children who will not be participating in the golf school vacation, there are minimal extra fees. Reservations for golf school vacation programs are absolutely required; the schools need to know how many children will be participating, because there is a minimum number of kids required to go ahead and hold the school lessons.

If you have a child who is interested in playing golf, whether they be beginners or older, more advanced players, contact one of the great golf schools near your projected vacation destination and find out what they can do not only for your little golfers game, but for your familys vacation as well.
